How to Install a Porch on Your Home

Before installing a porch on your home there are some things that you should consider. Once you have determined the size, purpose, design, construction material and the budget for the project, then take the tape measure and calculator and determine the dimensions and the amount of material that you will need. It is important to do a thorough job in measuring and planning your porch project so that when you begin porch installation everything will work out as you have planned. After measuring and planning your porch project, build the outer frame of the porch by attaching the boards that will form the frame to your home and to the posts that support the porch. After building the outer frame, add the floor joists and nail the floorboards to the joists. It is important to have a level and firm foundation underneath the supporting posts; it is also important to make sure the posts and outer bands of the porch are square. Concrete pads make a great foundation for the posts or you may choose to concrete the posts in the ground.
